Nagh.. Just use normal forsworn-ravagers. Archers, of course. Give them an enchanted bow, good arrows, and they melt everything. Literally everything- mostly one-shotting enemies and slaying all the vampires, dragonpriests, dragons,like they are crappy bandits. They game becomes totally unplayable- you do not need to fight anymore.

Yeah, those Volkihar vampires are no joke. I found myself struggling even with my character at a ridiculously high level. Orc, around level 80, chugged magic resistance potions, activated berserker power, changed difficulty to Very Easy, and used fire-enchanted weapons. I still found myself using up most of my health potions in just one single random encounter.

I definitely prefer a one handed sword and shield bandit chief as my dead thrall, way more aggressive then most and can play the game by themselves

Fledgling vampire when your below level 60. Go to jail. It will evolve into a master vampire. They are bomb. Which you cannot thrall in the game. Otherwise is best just to kill your followers and use them.

The one orcish merchant that greets you to solstheim is another great option. Kill him, run from his body guard and De aggro him. Then resurrect the orc and his body guard will still remain loyal to him.

See, I love this. I love necromancy. My problem is, there doesn’t seem to be a high enough population for it and I’d want zombies. I don’t mean I want to raise rotting corpses, I mean I want it so if they successfully bite you, you’re now infected and you will eventually turn and attack others around you, thus turning more and more people. But I also want things to scale with me, thus increasing the difficulty and how they adapt to me.

you can just put everything you want on the body then reanimate it

FudgeMuppet would be wrong in this case. THE STRONGEST resurrectable NPC would have to be a Nightmaster or Nightlord vampire. Not a mod either. 100X more powerful than your typical Volkihar vampire.

I just resurrected whoever I wanted. Made it far more fun, than trying to keep track of “special “ bodies all game.

My Necromancer build’s got Ulfric Stormcloak as the undead follower. Surprised a generic Volkihar vampire is more powerful than Ulfric Stormcloak.

How do you get such powerful thralls I am maxed out in stats I prestige my powers so many times I got beyond powerful gear but no matter what anytime I use the dead thrall it says the enemy is to strong I got a permanent freaking frost and flame atrinoch instead since I could actually summon them

The strongest thrall I’ve got is Vyrther and he’s too strong to be thralled normally. You have to get to him at a low level with max conjuration.

If we are counting named NPCs, check out the ebony warrior, one of the greybeards, or Ulfric. Mostly because they can also use shouts.

And despite it all, even with the unofficial patch, a single bad fast travel will make your summons disappear…

It was so sick to have 7, essential, housecarls.

Honestly the strongest thralls are whatever dungeon bosses aren’t too high level to reincarnate, but not too low lvl to get one shot by a skeever.

What about that guy from Meridia’s quest? The one that has a second phase after he dies. If im not mistaken, it happens every time he dies, even as a dead thrall

My Dead thralls always disappear. Which is already slightly annoying, but after ive enchanted and leveled up their equipment to maximum, only to have them not appear after i fast travel someplace or exit a dungeon… ITS INFURIATING!!

Arch-Curate Vyrthur is better! He can solo anything and has more health than any other thrall.

With anniversary content, you can thrall a level 78 npc while being a vampire lord.
With necromage, bonewolf pet and bloodworm helm, you can use dead thrall on Arch-Curate Vyrthur.
His max level is 75. So you should get to level 63 before facing him.

On my current, very modded, playthru I’m able to not only reanimate up to 3 high level vampires at once… but I also have a mod that lets me carry bodies around… which in turn means I have fodder ready to go, and a couple extra bodies Serana can reanimate. It get funny if I reanimate a necromancer, then that one reanimates another…and another. Turns into necroception.

I’m fairly certain that you can do it with just the necromage perk. I have a lvl 180+ dark elf battlemage that specializes in conjuration and destruction with one handed for when shit gets heavy. With Daedric gauntles enchanted for buffing unarmed attacks from the gloves of the pugilist. I might have to level down to avoid level caps but I know I’ve resurrected plenty of vampires while not being one just having the necro perk.

I like to use the corpses of Ebony Warrior and Ulfric. What better way to assert dominance than using the corpses of fellow shouters? Only if they both die does an enemy gain the privilege of being slain by my own hand. And even then they’ll still have to contend with deadra, an Ancient Dragonborn and the whole damn sky, if they actually manage to wound me.

Malkoran spawns a corrupted shade whenever he dies. So it’s basically a very strong magical npc that attacks everyone and gives you 250 gold each time it dies.

If you do it right, you can use Vyrthur as your dead thrall

I like the base frost and fire mage, they are always very aggresive and have the advantage of being ranged

I do Dawnguard questline so I’ll be grabbing two of those Dawnguard who attack you in the cave as my thralls.

The Champion of Boethiah is also a strong dead thrall. There’s a glitch that if you resurrect him using that spell, another Ebony Mail will spawn in his inventory, but I’m not sure if Bethesda fixed it or not. Also, having a champion of Boethiah as an undead minion is way more badass than a generic Volkihar vampire

That’s why I made a new spell “Animate Dead” that has an even higher level cap than Dead Thrall, has a novice level spell cost, and runs for ~2 minutes

My favorite Dead Thrall is the guy that thinks he’s the ghost guardian of the Barrow in Ivarstead because he resurrects with his “ghostly” form and doesn’t do the constant, annoying groaning.

I usually do 2 mages to help blast from a distance while my meaty tank follower goes in melee. Add in some illusions to make the enemies fight each other. And I just go find myself a chair to sit in while my minions clear the place out.

I remember my first Dead Thrall was “The Caller” (?) the end boss of the lost books quest from the College that you can negotiate an ending with. I backstabbed her after, obviously, with a fiery soultrap dagger, then cast Dead Thrall. Then it was totally a “wait a minute…” moment.

I wish the dead thrall system was better. They get lost all the time, there’s no way of knowing where they are or if they died. I worked up a ancient vampire and krev with enchanted gear just for them to never find them again. Ik they spawn like horses but they never came to me lol

I got a Volkihar master vampire, Arch Curate Vyrthur, and Vonos with all their gear smithed and enchanted. They destroy most enemies before I can get a hit in. Also the Volkihar master vampire retains his dialogue and says a bunch of hilarious lines when in combat.

Forgetting Vyrthur you can dead thrall him before level 20 or something and he levels with you I think

All these years later, and vampire/necromage is still paying dividends.

I liked using Orchendor as a mage just to imagine he’s annoying the npcs as much as he annoyed me. All that teleporting and magic immunity really puts on a show.

Since I have a mod that revamps most artifacts, like the necromancer’s amulet, I am able to use dead thrall on Arondil and Lu’ah AL-Skaven. Makes for a great necromancer trio 😁
